Compassion, expertise, and innovation — the heart behind every recovery

Meet the specialists redefining advanced veterinary care in Central Florida — locally and privately veterinarian owned and operated.

The Story Behind Kinetic

At Kinetic Veterinary Specialists, every decision we make starts with empathy and ends with precision. Founded by board-certified specialist Dr. Eric Herman who saw the need for a calmer, more transparent path to advanced care, Kinetic was built to give pet families something rare — expert-level medicine with a heart for communication and comfort in the most minimally invasive treatment option available.

We believe the best outcomes come from collaboration: between specialists, pet owners, and primary veterinarians who all share one goal — helping your pet move and feel better, faster.

Why We Exist

When your pet is in pain, uncertainty can be overwhelming. Kinetic was created to replace that stress with clarity and confidence. Our specialists saw how fragmented care could be — diagnostics in one building, surgery in another, and rehab elsewhere. We set out to change that.

Under one roof, we integrate surgery, imaging, anesthesia, and rehabilitation so every pet gets a seamless, well-coordinated plan from start to finish. The result: faster recovery, less stress, and a smoother experience for pets and their families.

Our Values in Action

Every member of our team shares a simple philosophy — do what’s best for the patient, every time.

Our Specialists

Dr. Eric Herman, DVM, DACVS-SA

Founder | Board-Certified Small Animal Surgeon

Dr. Eric Herman is the founder of Kinetic Veterinary Specialists and a board-certified small animal surgeon dedicated to restoring comfort, mobility, and quality of life for pets facing complex orthopedic and neurologic conditions. His clinical focus includes orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, and advanced soft tissue surgery, with particular expertise in total joint replacement, angular limb deformity correction using patient-specific 3D surgical guides, spinal surgery, arthroscopy, laparoscopy, and complex fracture repair.

Dr. Herman earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Purdue University after early acceptance, followed by a rigorous rotating internship at the world-renowned Animal Medical Center in New York City. He then completed a small animal surgical residency at MedVet in Columbus, Ohio, where he trained in high-volume referral surgery. Following residency, Dr. Herman pursued additional advanced training in canine rehabilitation through the University of Tennessee, further shaping his comprehensive, recovery-focused approach to surgical care.

At the core of Dr. Herman’s philosophy is the belief that successful surgery extends beyond the operating room. He combines meticulous planning, minimally invasive techniques, advanced imaging, customized anesthesia protocols, and evidence-based rehabilitation strategies to reduce pain, shorten recovery times, and restore long-term function.

Pet owners value Dr. Herman’s calm, reassuring presence and his ability to explain complex medical decisions with clarity and compassion. Referring veterinarians trust his collaborative communication, detailed case summaries, and commitment to shared decision-making that supports continuity of care. Beyond clinical practice, Dr. Herman teaches internationally, mentors fellow surgeons, and advocates for the integration of rehabilitation and technology in modern veterinary surgery.

Outside of the operating room, Dr. Herman enjoys spending time at Disney parks with his family and playing golf—bringing the same focus, patience, and care to life that he brings to every patient.

Dr. Daniel Sandoval, VMD, DACVS-SA

Board-Certified Small Animal Surgeon

Dr. Daniel Sandoval is a board-certified small animal surgeon with a primary focus on minimally invasive soft tissue procedures while also providing advanced orthopedic care. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania before completing a rotating internship at the Schwarzman Animal Medical Center in New York City. He then pursued advanced surgical training through a surgical internship with the Philadelphia BluePearl Group, followed by a residency in small animal surgery at NorthStar VETS in New Jersey.

Dr. Sandoval’s surgical philosophy centers on achieving excellent outcomes through small incisions, reduced tissue trauma, and thoughtful surgical planning, allowing patients to recover faster with less pain and fewer complications. His clinical interests include minimally invasive soft tissue surgery, specifically laparoscopic and thoracoscopic procedures, as well as fracture repair, cruciate ligament stabilization, and emergency surgery.

Pet owners appreciate Dr. Sandoval’s calm, reassuring communication and his focus on returning pets to normal function as quickly and safely as possible. Referring veterinarians value his collaborative approach, detailed surgical reports, and commitment to continuity of care.

Outside of the hospital, Dr. Sandoval enjoys playing soccer, learning about American history, and traveling.

Dr. Kelly Vernon, DVM, CCRP, CVA, CVMMP

Rehabilitation, Sports Medicine & Integrative Medicine

Dr. Kelly Vernon is a clinician in Kinetic Veterinary Specialists’ rehabilitation and integrative medicine team, playing a vital role in optimizing recovery following surgery or injury. She earned her veterinary degree at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004. Dr. Vernon also holds an advanced certification in rehabilitation therapy from the University of Tennessee, and certifications in acupuncture and medical manipulation (similar to chiropractic) from Chi University.

Dr. Vernon is also an instructor at Chi University, where she teaches veterinarians these advanced modalities. Her clinical approach blends evidence-based rehabilitation with integrative therapies to reduce pain, improve mobility, and enhance long-term function.

Working closely with Kinetic’s surgeons, Dr. Vernon develops individualized rehabilitation plans tailored to each patient’s procedure, condition, and lifestyle. Clients value her compassionate, hands-on care and her ability to guide families confidently through the recovery process.

Dr. Vernon enjoys spending time with her family and her ever changing menagerie of animals at her small farm. A special love of senior and special needs pets means the list of fur babies could change at any moment. She is an avid reader, and a member of her local book club. She and her husband love to travel, especially if the destination is known for great food and drinks!

Dr. Carolyn McKune, DVM, DACVAA

Board-Certified Veterinary Anesthesiologist | Mythos Veterinary Anesthesia

Dr. Carolyn McKune is a board-certified veterinary anesthesiologist who partners with Kinetic Veterinary Specialists through Mythos Veterinary Anesthesia. She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. The need for structured perioperative patient advocacy drove her to complete a rotating internship at Washington State University and a residency in Anesthesia and Critical Patient Care at UC Davis. She provides advanced anesthesia planning and pain management for complex orthopedic, neurologic, soft tissue and minimally invasive surgical procedures.

In addition to direct patient care, Dr. McKune has personally trained Kinetic’s anesthetist technicians, elevating the hospital’s anesthesia standards and ensuring consistent, high-level care across all procedures. Her individualized anesthesia protocols enhance patient safety, comfort, and recovery—especially for high-risk and advanced surgical cases. Dr. McKune works closely with surgeons, rehabilitation clinicians, and technical staff to provide seamless perioperative care from induction through recovery.

When she’s not fulfilling her life mission to provide outstanding anesthesia to any patient, anywhere, she can be found soaking up the time with her husband, three human kids, two dogs and three cats on their wild ride through life.
